Unfortunately, your realtor did you a disservice when he/she allowed this sort of agreement. This often happens went "renting" happens before escrow closing. The people get in and start finding things they don't like, etc. and change their minds. I am sorry this happened to you. I guess the best you can do now is chalk it up to lessons learned if you find out you have no legal recourse.
