Just before we married, my husband found a mouse in his apartment, and had the bright idea of just trapping it in the cupboard it had run into. As it turned out, he'd also left a giant bag of M&M's in the pocket of a coat in that cupboard, which the mouse apparently lived on until it snuck into the next apartment, where our more efficient neighbour dealt with it. I had to spend a whole afternoon cleaning out mouse poop and candy shells that had been left behind. We've since got two cats, and I'm grateful for their services. Then again, I went to get a sweater out of our closet a couple of nights ago and found a giant wolf spider sitting on top of it, staring at me. We had to try to vacuum it up, and tell the guests that had just arrived to stay back. I guess that's what we get for keeping the cats out of our bedroom. Lizards I like, and fortunately, the rather large scorpions here haven't gotten into the house yet.
