You’re going to think I’m crazy but the best job I’ve had so far was a manager at a fast food restaurant. I worked with the same 3 people. We were in between 2 schools, so we were really busy at lunch. We would do almost as much in sales in an hour and a half , as they did the rest of the day and they always had twice as many people. It was crazy but fun, and my 10 hour days flew by.

But the best part was the little kids that came. It wasn’t in the best neighborhood, most were from single parent families, whose parent left for work long before the kids woke up and didn‘t get home until late. The kids were in elementary school. It started out with a couple kids and we ended up with about a dozen after their friends found out. They’d stop by on their way to school and on their way home. They’d show us their home work (which we helped them with when they needed it) tests, and report cards. We gave them free pop or food if they improved their grades, some if they just didn‘t get in trouble at school that day. Bought one girl a coat, her and her sister had to take turns because they only had one. I took another kid across the street to the gas station and let him pick out a few bags of candy so he’d have a treat to take to school on his birthday (he didn‘t stop thanking me for weeks). They closed that restaurant and we were transferred to one in another town. The last day we were open the kids came in and we were all crying. I still wonder what happened to them. Their attitudes and outlook changed so much I hope that they continued to improve their grades, stay out of trouble, and made something of them selves.
