It's only been since moving to GA that I've been to parties where they don't open the presents (of course I didn't have kids before either!) At first I thought it was very odd but now I understand when the party is held at a place you're paying for - you want to get your money's worth with the kids playing nonstop.
I think a house party or family party I would definitely have DS open presents.
