I used that ticky tac stuff that doesn't damage art and hang their art on the walls. They each get about 4-5 in their room and then I have 4-5 elsewhere in the house. We keep them up til another piece comes home and then they can decide if they want to switch one out or not.
I keep my faves in a large plastic rubbermaid container that has a lid so each kid has one and they stack on top of each other in a closet. At the end of the year, I sit down and we choose about 10 things to keep from the year. I have one large rubbermaid box for each to keep treasures for each kid. I won't let it go beyond that. My kids are 8 and 6 and we have their first outfits, blankets, stuffed animal and a couple of small toys they liked up to this point. So, when they are older they will have one box of papers/art and one of their stuff
