No experience to offer, but of all the possibilities, this one doesn't sound too bad. I would do some digging into the situation with the child's birth parents however to ensure that there is no anger, disputes, violence, alcohol, drugs, etc in the picture (although may be likely if the parents have lost or gave up custody). Bringing any of those things into my home would be a non-starter for me.
