I make my own ranch dressing.
The key of course is buttermilk. I use equal parts buttermilk (1/2 cup), sour cream (1/2 cup), and mayo (1/2 cup) then mix. I use lowfat mayo and sour cream but regular can be used!
Then I start adding seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, cracked black pepper, parsley flakes and anything else that grabs my fancy -- but these are THE necessary spices!
Wisk or shake in a salad dressing shaker (I have the Hidden Valley Ranch one! but Tupperware makes one as well...) and then let it sit for a couple of hours before serving.
This does have to be stored COLD and used by expiration dates on the sour cream/buttermilk.
I actually do add a little bit of salt but you sure wouldn't have to since the mayo has some salt in it or maybe your tastebuds are accustomed to low salt?
It takes less than 5 minutes to make it.
