At our store, if you get a raincheck for something that is free after extracare bucks, they ring it up at zero when you go to buy it with the raincheck later. Our store is ALWAYS out of most everything. Even the employees are frustrated with the amounts CVS sends them for the sales. It works out OK for me because I love to pay 0!
I have about 5 rainchecks right now for stuff they have been out of for a bit.
