I think it's always a good thing for a woman to have her own bank account and credit card that her husband is not on. I don't plan on getting divorced in my lifetime but I am a realist. We have joint accounts for checking and savings (which household expenses come out of). He has his stock and 401K (in his name) and my business account is in my name only. I also have 2 credit cards in my name only (one business and one personal) as well as a checking account and savings account that is mine.

To my mom, it seems complicated but to us, it works. DH would FREAK if he saw my business credit card for the month. I pay it off,...no big deal but just seeing that kind of number would freak him out. That's why it's mine. He is not obligated to pay for debt my business incurs....it's my baby...not his

You have to find what works for your relationship.
