Brenda are you my long lost niece? LOL!!??!! That is how I make it too. I saute a small diced onion in with the butter first then add the flour and milk. Sometimes I also throw in a small chunk of jalapeno cheese in with the extra sharp cheddar, it gives it a nice little kick.
