When you take your iron supplement, take it on an empty stomach, with orange juice for maximum absorption. You could also take a vitamin C tablet if you prefer.

Avoid Milk products, Calcium supplents, antacids, and coffee or tea for an hour before or 2 hours after the iron supplement. All of these items decrease iron absorption.
