As far as the term, "white trash," I don't use it, don't like, but I don't get worked up over it.

So, I guess the next question is why it doesn't bother me but comments that stereotype blacks do?

I guess it because I have never felt demeaned because of my race. I suspect that I'd feel differently if the term used was one that invoked a history of violence or oppression or discrimination against me because of my skin color. And it would feel different if I had reason to believe that I was being marginalized or denied opportunities because of the color of my skin.

I don't. And last I heard, nobody got lynched because they were white trash, or even denied a job or a job opportunity because they were considered "white trash" as opposed to just "trash."

I don't like the term. But I don't get exercised about it either.
I posted the link to the original article. Here it is again:
Heather Mallick's Official Website - A Mighty Wind blows through Republican convention

Seriously Dannyboy. . .read it before you try to defend this woman. She said A LOT of nasty things.

"She added nothing to the ticket that the Republicans didn't already have sewn up, the white trash vote. . . ."

Why not just say poor white vote? Because she knows darn well that the term "white trash" has a lot of derogatory stereotypes tied to it. It's the equivalent to saying that Obama has sewn up the ghetto vote.

"It's possible that Republican men, sexual inadequates that they are . . . .No, she isn't even female really . . .White trash — not trailer trash, that's something different — is rural, loud, proudly unlettered (like Bush himself), suspicious of the urban, frankly disbelieving of the foreign, and a fan of the American cliché of authenticity. . . .What normal father would want Levi "I'm a ****in' redneck" Johnson prodding his daughter? . . . they know Barack Obama is not planning to finish off the ordinary hillbilly

And the history of the term "white trash" is an ugly one. It was targeted mostly at newly immigrated Irish immigrants. I don't think that I have to tell you that they most certainly did have a history of being discriminated against, and in fact many were indentured servants here.

I don't know about being lynched, BUT certainly people have been discriminated against for being considered "white trash", which is a derogatory term that places A LOT of stereotypes on being poor and white. If somebody is just trash, then fine. BUT that is not what the term "white trash" implies. It's a blanket statement against poor white people.

In a different article she pegged Alaska with being "a frontier state full of drunks and crazy people." Is she referring to Native Alaskans?

I don't get worked up over the term either. . .but this Mallick is a eletist, racist, sexist boob. . .and apparently the CBC is ok with printing her rants.
