Did you read the history of the word? Just because somebody refers to Paris Hilton as "white trash" does not take away from the meaning of the word. Just like if I call my white neighbor "uppity"doesn't take away from the meaning of the word.
Take what you've said and tweak it:
Uppity does NOT refer only to blacks, nor are all blacks included in the designation of uppity as I've heard it used.
Doesn't change the connotation of how "white trash" was used by this Mallick, just as it didn't change the connotation of "uppity" used by that Southern senator.
