Because it is another way to divide people. You talk about them against us...rich against the regular folk. The "elite vs the regulars". Get people to view anyone who disagrees with your politics as stuck up, smug, arrogant and have them believe that you are down to earth and just like them only in reality, John McCain is wealthy beyond our imaginations and Palin keeps forgetting that she makes over 80,000/year and lives in a 14,000 sq ft home and her husband make 50 dollars an hour as a fisherman when he works, so when she says she is just like the middle class, she is not quite in the same league as some who truly are in the middle class.
The hokey gimmick doesn't work for me.
