Self employed here too and actually doing better than last year (not exactly sure why, but I must be doing something right).
I am VERY worried about DH's job, he brings in the real bill money for the house. He works in the asphalt department of a huge quarry, but they have been firing management and laying off workers for a couple of months now. No one is building, so no need for new roads, the only work they get is airports or roads, but those are slowing down too.
This is the first year since he's worked there that they're laying off, we'll be in trouble this winter, so we are already cutting back to bare necessities. We have a big stockpile to help us and he'll still get unemployment, but that's nothing compared to the check we usually live on.
