I would suggest that you go to your bank and get "prequalified" for your car loan, just as you can for a mortgage. It is usually less expensive (unless the auto maker is offering 0% interest for a specified amount of time) to get your own financing, as the dealership gets a kickback on financing (because it is more than other avenues of getting a loan). Can't hurt to get prequalified and won't cost you anything if you go through your bank (or better if you have a credit union) and you will be prepared to dicker better with this info.
