It is interesting to bring up the issue of WMD as a reason for invading Iraq. Had Saddam maintained a stockpile, he still could not have deployed them against this country. Then again, I remember The UN weapon's inspectors being on the ground and finding nothing. I remember the right confidently stating that they couldn't find their a** from a hole in the ground. And so, with the UN inspectors having almost concluded their work, and finding nothing, we attacked Iraq. By the time we invaded, nobody believed that Iraq possessed WMD anymore.
It would have been nice if Clinton would have disregarded civilian casualties in order to take out Bin Ladin when he had him in his sites. But, he isn't Bush. It would have been nice if Clinton had gone ahead and invaded Afghanistan one month before he left office rather than drawing up a plan for his successor to carry out. He is a lot smarter then Bush. Then again, nobody ever handed him a memo stating "Bin Ladin determined to strike in US." Lord knows, it wouldn't have been seemly for Bush to interrupt his vacation. But, that is, I guess, "keeping us safe."
What matters is that Al Qaeda got exactly what they wanted.
