Rubbing his nose in it and making him stay outside isn't going to fix it. He has no idea why you are doing these things.

The best thing is fixing him. It would have been better if you'd done it sooner. Do you make sure that you take him out right before you go to bed each night? Maybe he has a hard time making it through the night.
