I'm somewhere in the middle. I find it kind of weird. Just last week my young eye doctor was calling me sweetie and I thought it was very weird. I noticed it everytime she said it. I couldn't decide how I felt, but I don't think I liked it.

I also find it condenscending to use for an elderly person. I used to work in a nursing home and a lot of the employees referred to the residents with those names. I hated it and swore I'd never do it.
