eBay will give him back the final value fee once he reports the sale has been canceled and you verify. The listing fee is not refunded but if he lists it again and it sells he will get back the second listing charge.
It is his fault for listing the item incorrectly. You should not have to ask him to verify what he put in the auction. It would be different if the size was not listed and you made an assumption.
Personally, I would give him a negative and if he reports you to eBay for non-payment send his email confirming he listed the item incorrectly. You won't get a strike and he can't leave you negative feedback.
