Since I also shop at a StopNShop I can easily imagine how you could steal. There is no "close-watching" person over the self-registers. There is one at Pathmark, but not here. Perhaps there are security cameras we are unaware of.

There is no beeping of unscanned items at the door like at Target.

There is a new system where you pick up a scanner at the door, and as you shop you scan and bag your items. Then at the register you just plug in your scanner and pay what it says (you don't unbag your items). Could you steal and put things in the bags as you go around....sure I bet you could.

I have also seen parents open a box of cookies, feed it to their kids and then place it back on the shelves.
