Personally, I would have a form of parental punishment, not be on tv, and make it a life lesson in being responsible, attentive, and paying attention to the task at hand, which was first and foremost, walking. Not texting.

Wow, I kinda see your point...........but at the same time, the girl WAS on the sidewalk, minding her own business, walking along..........it's not like she was out in the street, OR behind the wheel....She wasn't drunk, or high, or acting up, she was just using her phone. It's not illegal to walk on a sidewalk and text.... so she wasn't doing anything wrong.
This was just an unfortunate thing (and funny since she wasn't hurt badly!) that happened to someone. The REAL stupidity here is NOT on the girl's part, but on the WORKER'S, who left the manhole uncovered!
