You don't have to "stare at the ground". I've seen plenty of things I needed to side-step merely by holding my head at normal level and being aware of things around me. Don't you?

There could have been red tape all around that manhole, and since she was engrossed in TEXTING, she could have stumbled right through it. I've seen people stumble into doors because because of texting. Thank God elevators doors are normally closed, I know of at least 2 people at work that would have fallen straight down the shaft engrossed in their damn phones.

Agreed that the company does have some responsibility, but SO DOES THE GIRL. To me it's a wash on both sides, but who knows.

Too many people are taught to take ZERO responsibility for any of their own actions, even if they're just partly to blame. What scares me is THESE are the people that will be taking care of me and running the country when I'm old. That should be scary to about everyone.
