I agree about reading and not watching tv. My dd had difficulty writing and spelling. She became an avid reader of older 19th century books like Jane Eyre, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, etc. Reading strengthened those skills and helped her to be able to write essays and reports in college.

Generally people on tv (not just in reality shows, but newscasters as well), have been steadily declining in grammar, and spelling skills.
