Are you wanting cords to connect various things, or are the other items you are talking about wireless (like laptops) and able to receive signals? I know the Wii is wireless and if you have a wireless router that you hook up to your cable connection it will broadcast an internet signal through your house, the Wii will pick it up if it's plugged into a power source. For the XBox, you have to buy a wireless thingy that hooks to the XBox so it can receive wireless signals. It doesn't come wireless-ready. You can, however, plug both of those devices (Wii and Xbox) into a hard-wired, corded connection and they will receive data via the web.
We put a wireless card into our desktop and now we're not limited to ONLY having it on the wall where the wires come in. The wireless card was about $30 after rebate several years ago - haven't priced them lately. We've had a wireless router for years because we wanted to receive internet connections on the laptop. The router hooks up much like a VCR/tv set up
So... the biggest question is if you want to use cords to connect stuff, or if you want to make your house wireless.
I'd suggest buying from buy.com. They usually have free shipping and good prices.
