I don't know who told you it was "hush, hush" but they lied. He told us what it was about weeks ago. The fact that a crackpot out of Florida chose to characterize it as an indoctrination into communism or whatever shouldn't surprise you.
It's not that they didn't want to release it to parents ahead of time, no President has ever done so before. The White House did not anticipate that ridiculous allegations would be made against this speech. I still think that asking kids for input into the problem of high school dropouts is a good idea.
