FAITH in GOD nearly caused my death.
When I was 3 years old, it was discovered that I'd need open heart surgery. I had a hole in my heart. I had been a preemie baby, premature and born at 26 weeks. My father's parents, hard core southern baptists, did NOT want me to have the surgery, saying, put it in god's hands. MY parents said NO WAY we are having the surgery and it caused a HUGE family fight. My dad was raised as a southern baptist, and my mother a Catholic, who went to school in Germany with nuns who actually did beat your hands with rulers! Neither of them saw any reason to let blind faith lead their way. Thanks be to my lucky stars my parents had enough sense to get me the open heart surgery I needed to save my fragile life. I had other complications from being a preemie, but the heart problem was the most threatening one.
I loved my grandparents dearly. But to not recognize when medical help is needed, and to blindly put one's faith in God, would have been a deadly mistake. I certainly would not be sitting here typing this had they gotten their way.
And now, a little girl, who had an easily maintainable illness, is DEAD, and what a shame that is! I guess those parents are going to try to justify their actions by claiming that it was "God's will" or something like that...... I believe they were completely negligent.
