Stories like this always remind me of this story:

A man was stranded on his roof while flood waters rose around him. A rescuer in a boat came by but the man refused saying that he was waiting for God to save him.

Another rescuer came by in a canoe, again the man refused in favor of waiting for God to save him.

As the water rose and things were desperate for the man, a helicopter came by and offered to take the man to safety. A final time, the man refused saying he was waiting for God to save him.

After the man drowned, he faced God and asked Him why he didn't save him. God replied: What do you mean!? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!
