I have not realized this is a problem. I also did not take into consideration that it's an extra strain on the cashier. I have always placed the basket on the belt and when I gave it a second thought I also thought "what's the difference between picking items off the belt and out of the basket?" Now I know. When you haven't experienced something sometimes it never crosses your mind.

As for putting the baskets somewhere there is usually a pile of them at the bag end of the register.
My friend is a cashier at WalMart I'm going to ask her this evening what her opinion is.

This is another reason I like these forums. I never would have thought of this had someone not brought it up.
