Are you friends with other people who have kids in your kids age range? If so, why not suggest having a "toy swap" and trade toys that the kids no longer play with. That would be a fun way to get some "new to them" stuff for the kids plus it can help give you ideas on the type of stuff to avoid buying because it doesn't hold the kids interest for very long.
