Wink Favorite Homemade cleaning items & or products?

I refuse to purchase the typical household cleaning products
that are getting more and more expensive. People are
paying a high dollar for convenience now. What do you use?

How much do you use, and when do you put it in?

I'm another vinegar fan. It disinfects and cleans for way less than other products sold in stores, and is way less toxic.
I live and die by my cases of vinegar ;-)

I use the same amount as I would fabric softener. I have a cup on my washer for softener. I just fill it up. Oh course make sure to use white vinegar.

You have me thinking so I did some research and came up with this:

A Multipurpose Kitchen Cleaner
Eliminate the need for several expensive commercial cleaning products by using the following mixture:

1 teaspoon borax
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vinegar
1/4 teaspoon or 1 squirt liquid dish soap
2 cups hot water

Prepare the mixture and store it in a clean spray bottle. You might want to recycle an old spray bottle from one of the commercial cleaners, or you can buy brand-new spray bottles at most hardware stores. Make sure you clearly label the bottle and attach a list of ingredients.

Use the cleaner on virtually any surface in your kitchen for daily cleaning. It is especially good for cleaning stove-tops and ovens. For caked-on stains on your stovetop, spray on mixture and let sit 15 minutes before wiping surface clean. To clean the inside of your oven, spray on the cleaner, leave overnight, and wipe clean.

For an all purpose kitchen sanitizer, toilet seats, bathroom sinks and counters I use a 10% bleach and 90% water in a spray bottle.

not to sound like a complete idiot here, where do you get the isopropyl alcohol.....I would love to try this out, because I have horrible streaks on my car windows and makes it nearly impossible to see at night

I did try the vinegar instead of fabric softener and my clothes sort of smelled like vinegar....

Isopropyl Alcohol

This is the alcohol that you buy in the drugstore. I use it to soak my pierced earrings in. It is usually in the same area as the hydrogen peroxide. I watch for them on sale. They used to be 3/$1.00 but now I am happy with 2/$1.00.
There are lots of other uses for it.

God bless you.
Pam

I have never had a problem with my clothes smelling like vinegar. I have been using vinegar for several years now. I do smell the vinegar while washing but not once out of the washer. Funny thing all of friends have me smell stuff to see if it is ok because I have a super sensitive nose. Sorry it was a problem for you.

I will try it again.......I'm always in a sleepy stuper so I could have spilled enought somewhere on my washer and I fold my clothes on the washer so.......I will try again though 'cause the clothes for nice clean and soft.

I make a cleaner that I found on the Martha Stewart website.

2 cups water
1/4 cup vinegar
10 drop essential oil (I use lavender)

I double the recipe and store it in an old windex bottle. The essential oil is just for masking the vinegar smell. I removed the old label from the bottle and wrote this recipe right on the bottle with a Sharpie so I won't forget it!. It works really well and I especially love using it to spot clean my hardwood floors. I feel good about using it on the kitchen counters because it's safe and non-toxic.
