Need to get rid of beetles on my Roses!

I have lived in my house 2 yrs. The first year I had beautiful old fashion every blooming rose bushes. The second year I had beetles eating all my rose blooms, never saw a flower. Since spring is approaching I'll be cutting the rose bushes down to the ground. I need some major help to get rid of these pesky beetles. Last year I sprayed and sprayed the blooms but to no avail. I thought I'd spray after cutting down last years bushes, but I need something very heavy duty because otherwise I'll get thousands of the beetles eating the rose blooms. Can anybody recommend something industrial strength I can get to do the job?????

Are they Japanese Beetles? If so they live underground. That is where they lay their eggs. Japanese Beetles originate from the larvae(grubs) that actually feed on the roots of your lawn and turf. Their eggs are laid in the turf, where they hatch into the larvae, then to beetles, which then migrate to their favourite feeding spots.

I would try milky spore or Neem oil.

Yep, you will need to do some sort of grub control. Unfortunatley, where beetles eat is where they mate and hence where they lay their eggs.

I use to use the beetle traps, then I read somewhere that it tends to attract more beetles because now your getting your neighbors beetles We have used the grub control and it does reduce them, one year we did not and I really noticed we have way more japanese beetles but it still seems they still came and ate all of my hedge roses. Every year I would trim the rose hedge take care of them all around my deck for years.

One day last year I had enough and I had my husband rip them all out. I planted hydrangeas all around my deck instead.

I know a master gardener and she advised me to spray my rose bushes with dish soap and water and a drop or two of ammonia in a spray bottle. It gets rid of beetles, aphids, and other creepy crawlers that like to eat the bushes. And yes! IT ACTUALLY WORKS!..I've had no problems for 3 years.

I do use the soap water in a spray bottle for my house plants.(aphids, etc..) But actually you are not getting to the root of the problem, with the roses.
