USPS Priority Mail question

Has anyone ever had to file an insurance claim with USPS? I need to know how to go about doing this. I have been waiting on a package that was supposedly delivered Wednesday, but I never received it. I talked to my regular mailman, the temporary mailman that delivered Wednesday's mail, and their supervisor multiple times yesterday and they're all clueless. They keep telling me that the package was delivered to my apartment manager Wednesday, but she didn't receive it either. None of them knows where my package is. It was insured and I tried to call the customer relations line all day today and nobody was ever there. Any ideas? TIA.

Maybe this will help. Link from USPS website:

http://www.usps.com/insuranceclaims/domestic.htm

You will need the insurance number that the sender would have a receipt for so you will need to keep on working on getting in contact with them.

That really is odd the way it disappeared. Hope you can get it cleared up relatively easily.

You or the shipper will need to complete some paperwork at the post office. You will need the insurance receipt to start the process. It does take awhile to get your check but they do come through.

I have contacted the sender. The weird thing is he says the only number he has is the shipment number, though he swears he insured it. I don't know how this works, but he says he printed the postage online and that's the only number he was given. My DH works for USPS in the Bulk Mail Center here, and he's been checking but nobody there seems to know what to do, but he has been told that this substitute mailman who was supposed to deliver my package has lost mail in the past. I'm just trying to get this taken care of because the sender says he's never had to do this before so he is clueless also.

I hve never bought insurance online so I am anot sure what kind of receipt you get but the number may be all you need for them to verify the insurance.

Since he printed the label online, he should be able to go into whatever program he used and click on the Details page in order to get the insurance number. It will be different from the Delivery Confirmation number.

Contact the USPS Inspection Service if this carrier has a bad record.

Perhaps the mail isn't lost, if you get my train of thought.

Thanks for the advice saturnfan. My DH came home after work last night with the phone number for the Postal Inspector, who he plans on calling first thing Monday morning.
