You might get more answers in another subforum (maybe the Cafe?)

However, I'll try to help as much as I can. What is the seller's feedback like? Has he sold a lot in the past, with positive comments from the buyer? Is the shipping reasonable for the item? (Many sellers avoid Ebay fees by jacking the shipping costs way up, and keeping the final selling price low.)

Is the item authentic/genuine? Is the seller in the US? What payment methods are accepted?

Just a few things to look out for!

I'm afraid I'm out of ideas, then. Maybe the item just isn't really popular, or has more sales than meet the demand? Is the condition described? Are the negatives explained at all? (although a 99.5% positive rating means they have significantly more positive dealings than negative!)

If your high bid is pretty low, and shipping is reasonable- it's probably worth the gamble. Paypal tends to side with the buyer if there are issues, so it's good that they accept it!

So did you win?!

There are a few reasons people start things at .99, they are trying to get traffic for their more expensive items, sometimes they don't know any better, or like the other poster said they inflate the shipping and start the bidding low to avoid fees.

A don't bid on the 3rd occasion, it's just not right and personally I can't support someone who does that even if I'm getting a great deal.

I bid on an acoustic guitar that started at .99 and I won it at .99.
The only thing is that the shipping was 19.99.

hi

good for you
you know i dont really think 19.99 is all that high for shipping
consider if you had to ship it. what the heck box do you use.
how much packing is it going to take to support it so it doesnt break .
that is a unique thing to box up .
i really think effort is worth alittle extra

still sounds like a deal

good luck
