Buyer Requests to Buy It Now

I have a couple of auctions listed for vintage toys. I am not much of a seller, so I do not have experience as a seller. Today I get a detailed question about one of the toys, then he emails me back to buy it now for $20 (it's currently $3 with no bids yet). I do have 4 watchers and it has 4 more days to go.

I have never been in this situation. Do I let the auction ride or consider his offer?

You need to do some research on him and on the toy. Check finished auctions to see how much the same toy has been selling for. Also check to see if he is a seller and if he sells this type of item. I would also wait a day or so before you answer him to see if you start getting bids. That may be a good offer or it may be worth a bit more.

If you are not sure of the value, I would not do it. See if you can find similar completed auctions to assess the value.

I agree with everyone else - and remember - most bids come in the last day of the auction. (Usually )

Don't do it.
I listed a lot of 10 vintage books for $9.99 and was asked to do a Buy it Now. When I refused he offered me $400 for one book. Seems it was a highly collectible Alcoholics Anon book from the 1940s.
Usually, if someone wants to BIN for a vintage item, they know it's going to be bid up.

I agree, I'd let the auction run. It seems that 99 percent of the time, if an early BIN offer comes in, it means the item is worth quite a bit.

Hmmm, how much did your books end up selling for?

I actually did sell the book to him for $400 as a BIN. It was water damaged and that was a fair price for it. If it had not been damaged it would have been worth $1000, but still, I paid $1 at an auction for 12 boxes of books and this book was included so I had made plenty of money for my investment.
I relisted the lot without that AA book and that lot sold for $10-$20.

Well, I did gently turn him down, telling him that there's a chance I may not get $20, and he'll end up ahead. The auction ends on Sunday and he did bid on it today.

***Will update on Sunday when auction ends. Thanks for the replies.

Kind of funny. It ended at $20.50, and the buyer who requested BIN did not win it.
