SELLERS.........What is Reasonable Shipping Time?

I am asking what is reasonable because I recently won an item, paid for it, then after a few days asked seller when item was sent as dd needed it this week. She replied that "as stated in her auction", she sends out 7 DAYS after payment is received. Huh? Sure enough, it does state this at the end of her terms. Is this kind of a long time to wait to send out once payment is received? I could see if she was waiting for a check to clear, but auction was paid thru Paypal.

Doesn't PayPal terms state that shipment has to be within 7 days?

I feel bad if I can't get it shipped the day after payment is made.

As a seller I try to ship in 3 business days or less. However as a buyer I don't even blink unless it takes longer then 5 business days. Particularly with casual sellers, you just sort of figure they might not make it to the PO every day. I believe paypal's rule is it has to be shipped in 7 days, however with the new paypal holds of 21 days that some people are experiencing... (shudder). Seriously, if I was still selling on ebay - which I'm not since I moved my auctions elsewhere, and I was told by paypal that they were holding payment for 21 days then I'd refund and cancel the auction. No way I'm shipping without money in hand.

I think it's pretty cruddy when a seller takes 7 days to ship an item. But they can if they want, especially when it's in the "fine-print". I would expect a good seller to ship within a day or two of the payment getting there.

I can understand that a seller might only go to the post office once a week with the price of gas the way it is now. As for me, as a seller, I mail everyday, but I live in a small town, 2 blocks from the post office, have to go there to get my mail everyday (no home delivery here) anyway. Not that is makes a difference because no auction I have had up in the past month has sold, I am just wasting money listing items.

I ship within 3 business days as well. During the holidays its within 1 day depending on when the payment arrived. Its hard to know how long it will take for a package to arrive so I try to get it mailed as quickly as possible.

Well, I ended up going out and buying this item since my daughter does need it today for band (no exceptions). Honestly, I should have done that to begin with. Anyway, the package is in the mail now, but I was forced to go out and buy one. I will keep the second one as an extra, as it would not be worth the cost for me to ship it back to her.

I should never have assumed that she would mail it right away since she had the payment (and I didn't read ALL of her terms). I do think it's unreasonable that she holds onto payment a whole week before sending out. I really feel like leaving her neutral (She left me a positive even before she got my payment. I think she'a a tad bit unorganized and confused me with someone else). Opinions?

As a seller I try to ship the following day (sometimes the same day). My problem is getting the buyer to pay, even though my auctions clearly state when I want to be paid. I know I like to get the items I buy quickly, so I like to ship quickly.

Although I think waiting 7 days from the time payment is received is extremely excessive, I think a neutral is not called for, as the seller did state that this is her policy.

I can't stand the sellers that print out the postage right away, but don't actually mail the item. I waited 10 days for a small-sized, first class package - and lo and behold the date she printed out the postage was the same day the auction ended. Right.

I agree, I ship fast too. You paid you should have it right away! I usually go to the post office 3 times a week or if I am going that way anyway I will drop stuff off on the other days too.

And I don't think they are allowed to print it out and then wait to mail it. I think that's tampering with the mail or something? Does anyone know the rule for that?

If it's in her terms to ship in 7 days and she did that then I think a neutral would be unfair. You can't blame her if you didn't read all her terms.

I think you would be terribly wrong to leave anything but a positive. Why is it her fault that you didn't read the terms? I think 7 days is a long time to wait to ship, but it was right there in the auction. Your lack of reading isn't her fault, IMO.

I still have not received this item; today is July 9. She emailed me that she mailed it the evening of June 30. I'm not sure what is going here; it appears that she may have fibbed about that. Is it still terribly wrong to consider leaving a neutral?

Yes. You don't have the item yet, you don't know when it was shipped. What if it arrives and is SNAD? Then you'd wished you'd waited and left a negative instead. The transaction is not yet over.

New development. I emailed the Seller yesterday and inquired about item, which hasn't arrived yet. She apologized and said that everything went wrong with this auction, and that she did mail it out June 30, but to the wrong person! The good news is that she is offering a full refund, and since I no longer need it (since I had to go out and buy one), a refund would be best.

This seller is the most unorganized I have ever encountered. First, she left me feedback before I pay, now she ships to wrong address. I really think that she has this 7 day payment-holding policy because she needs that much time to organize everything.

So, is neutral feedback appropriate or what? If I decide to leave her positive, I think it would be short of the truth.

In this situation, I'd leave no feedback personally. The way eBay has revamped things, a neutral hurts a seller as much as a negative. I save them for sellers who are truly dishonest. At least this one admitted her mistake and is refunding. Now, if the refund takes a while or she doesn't refund shipping, then I'd leave a neutral or negative.

thrifster is not very nice.
As a seller, I make every effort to ensure that US packages are scheduled for pick up within 24 hours of auction ending. Now with international shipping, it can sometimes take more time because it requires the extra paperwork and a trip to the PO for the good old fashion "wait in line" game" In this case I need to have a complete afternoon available...lol. Still should never take longer than 3 days.

I wouldn't leave a neutral - I would leave nothing at all. Feedback isn't required.

Generally, how is her feedback from other buyers?

She may be disorganized overall or this may be a fluke. She may have a very valid reason that it only works for her to ship once a week that has nothing to do with organization. Her family may only have one car and so she may only be able to ship on Saturday mornings, etc. If there is a legitimate issue like that which resulted in her needing to put the 7 day terms in her listing, that's not an organization problem. She was upfront about the timeframe, so to punish her for it would be unfair.

If in fact she did send it to the wrong person but her 7-day terms were for a solid reason, she really only made one error, and she is offering to fix it completely.

If you only buy, you probably aren't aware of the repricussions of a neutral to a seller. eBay considers a seller's percentage of POSITIVE feedbacks when determining things such as the percentage of the final sale price that a seller pays in fees, as well as whether a seller's iitems show up at the top - or bottom - of the list in a search result. If a seller had 95 positives and 5 neutrals they have a 95% positive rating. If they had 95 positives and 5 negatives, they have a 95% positive rating. eBay just looks at the positive rating, so a neutral or a negative will have exactly the same detrimental effect on the seller's ability to do business.

In other words... if it wasn't a NEGATIVE experience, don't leave a neutral, because a neut will have the exact same effect as a neg.

There are plenty of truly negative sellers who cheat you, who would refuse to refund your money, who would string you along until it was too late to file a Paypal claim, etc. This seller, while not perfect, doesn't seem to be a scammer.

Save your negs for the scammers and the cheats.
