Question Have a ? about ebay item I canceled

Hi. My DH bought a fishing pole on ebay today with BIN-the represented it as being 5' 1/2" which was great. But then my husband looked at the picture closer today and realized that it didn't look like a 5' 1/2", so he asked the seller before he shipped it if he could verify it was that size (something about the cork on the handle was longer looking than it should have been). So the seller wrote back and said that it did say 5" 1/2" on the pole, but it actually was 6' 6 " (which leads my dh to believe it is not original handle). So, since this is for my 6 yr old, this size will not work-so I told him I wanted to cancel. Personally, I have never canceled an auction on ebay before in my 11 years of being a member-but feel this seller misrepresented it in his description. Now he says that he's been charged listing and closing fees-and that I could have asked him before I used BIN-and he wants me to pay his $4 for these fees. Doesn't ebay credit the seller back these fees if a buyer cancels-they used to way back when I sold a few things on there. What should I do?
Thank you

eBay will give him back the final value fee once he reports the sale has been canceled and you verify. The listing fee is not refunded but if he lists it again and it sells he will get back the second listing charge.

It is his fault for listing the item incorrectly. You should not have to ask him to verify what he put in the auction. It would be different if the size was not listed and you made an assumption.

Personally, I would give him a negative and if he reports you to eBay for non-payment send his email confirming he listed the item incorrectly. You won't get a strike and he can't leave you negative feedback.

Well, the problem is that I already paid him bcs it was a Buy it now. But after I looked at the picture of it-it just did'nt seem like that size was right-so I asked him to make sure. Now he refunded me $27 instead of $34 without even waiting for a reply from me. He said that bcs I already paid and changed my mind, he cant not even go through the proper steps to get the relist credit or closing fees-ebay no longer offer that option. And now he's mad at me bcs I won't take any responsibility and feels that I should out of good nature at least offer him something for hassle. Should I file a claim thru Paypal?

File the dispute thru Paypal for the rest of your money-You'll get it minus the paypal fees (that they took--Say you paid $10 & all Paypal fees were 1.00-You'll get $9 back-he doens't get to keep the $1 either it was a Paypal fee)...Yes, he can still cancel the transaction...Don't let him fool you..

I sold something for a friend (that she told me worked) Buyer got it said it doesn't, so I said return it & I will return your $...So I then went in & chose 'Resolve a Problem' one of the option is 'we agreed to not complete transaction, buyer is returning item & I will refund & final value fee granted once other person (you) agrees to it...So he can get his $ back...don't let them get away with that...there is no reason for that...His mistake, not yours.

I'm almost positvie you'll get a full refund...& I would leave a neg now since he is being a meany. I would have settled for a neutral but now he is playing games & should get a neg.

good luck! let us know what happens.

You don't have to pay a PayPal fee. If a refund is done you get the full amount back. The seller even gets back their fee if they use the refund option. If they just send the money, fees are still attached.

Start a dispute with PayPal now and escalate to a claim if he does not respond timely.

Well, I did get my money back-eventually. The seller gave me a $3 refund, then finally that last $4 after I still complained. The seller is not very happy and told me to never bid on his stuff again-but my dh and I wrote the seller name down the night before so we would be sure not to anyway! He still insists that he couldn't do a "refund" thru ebay and that now it has cost him more money bcs he has had to refund 3 times and he is out that money. He even relisted the item before this was all settled-and listed it with the correct measurement and listed it for a higher price!
I'm sure he will leave me neg FB-but oh, well-it will be a 1st for me.

Leave him his negative as a warning to others. He can't leave you anything but positive.
