What Brands do well?

I normally sell pre-owned clothing on Ebay. I hit the thrift stores, especially the local SA where Wednesdays are all clothing 50% off.

I normally look for the NWT stuff but of course, it's few and far between. So I pick up the stuff that's used, but in really good shape. I've been getting stuff like jeans from Abercrombie, Hollister, Lucky, etc. But I'm always looking to expand what I sell.

Have any other brand name recommendations on what does well? I see Baby Phat, South Pole, Banana Republic, Levis, etc, but can never decide what to buy.

Normally I can pick up jeans for about $3-$4 a pair even in perfect condition.

Thanks!

This is a usually touchy subject on eBay Discussion Boards. Good thing you asked here rather than there.

Honestly, I found several different brands to "look" for just by reading the Clothing, Shoes & Accessories board and the Shoes, Purses & Accessories board over at eBay.

People post their thrift finds (usually a lengthy list) and their "Woo-hoos" so just by reading those I've expanded on what I know will or won't sell for a profitable amount on eBay.

Some brands I've never heard of or seen (Issey Miyake), some I'd never heard of but found and sold (Misook) and some I knew but had been passing over (FLAX).

Takes a little research but I tell you, there's a wealth of information for the taking on those boards.

There was a list going around with popular and bad brands listed, but I don't even go by that anymore. I posted to try and find a copy, so I'll post the list if I get it.

Here's what I buy at SA, and the ones with the stars I am willing to pay the full price on certain styles:

Abercrombie (men*and women's if it's a current style only*)
Hollister*
American Eagle
some Levi's ( nothing tapered or frumpy)
Lucky ( only newer styles)
Buffalo*
Earnest Sewn
Venezia ( current and diferent styles)
Old Navy plus size
Gap anything larger than 12 in women's
Diesel*
Citizens Of Humanity * (lots of fakes out there)
Seven7
True Religion
Page
Seven for All Mankind ( lots of fakes out)
Rock and Republic ( lots of fakes)

You can post and check for fakes on AuthenticForum - The leading site for authentic designer jeans!

One big tip that I wish I knew was don't buy it just because of the brand, if it's plain I usually pass it by unless it's hollister or Abercrombie. Plain jeans are a dime a dozen, you want new and different ones that people haven't seen before.

I'm sure there are more that I'm not thinking of, so I hope someone posts the list!

Thanks so much! I got lucky and found a nice pair of Men's 7-FAM in great shape....and I do know what you mean about passing by some plain ones. I was picking up American Eagle, but now I can't give them away.

Some days you can hit it really well and some you might as well have stayed home. I used to pick up any Levis or Old Navy and they would go, but things have changed and I am more selective about what I'll buy unless I get it almost free like at a bag sale then I"ll get anything that looks good.

And take a look at tops, they are usually a lot cheaper at the SA than the jeans and you can get just as much. Cover that whole store, each week do some research on a specific area, mens shirts, scrubs ( holiday motif & bigger sizes do well), kids, plus sizes, sweaters and check each section out piece by piece. I buy sweaters now because no one else is and there are some goodies on half off and in the winter I buy capri's and shorts. You'll learn by listing them, and you'll remember what you relisted 3 times and what sold for big bucks, or make a list.

Another tip is check everything over a second time before checking out. A lot of stuff there has a stain, hole, wear in between the thighs, broken zipper, have been hemmed ( hate that) and it isn't always seen when you first pick it up. I waist more money buying crap and you would think I'd know better by now.

I'd get run off the Ebay boards for all of that information. Now that I've given away all of my secrets, I'd better switch catergories!

LOL I appreciate it. I just don't want to waste money buying things that I have to get stuck with.

I never thought of buying larger sizes. I'm always about the junior size, because I know I'm always on lookout for stuff to fit my girls.

I hear what you are saying about the secondhand stuff having flaws. I had a pair of gorgeous Hollister jeans in my hand, and noticed that they had a huge split in the crotch! I'm not handy when it comes to sewing, so back on the rack they went!
