Last month our veterinary specialist said those 6 words we prayed we'd never hear. "We've done all we can do". Tears fell like rain as we realized Socks is going to die.
But we're not ready to let go, we don't want to say goodbye. We'd pay any price and go to any lengths to make him okay. Nonetheless, it was time to stop the chemotherapy and rely on medications that might help slow the cancer down. Sock's regular vet even removed some large masses just to make him more comfortable....

Just last week I was ready to do the happy dance over going to visit my family. Funny how life can take a drastic turn in a week. Yesterday was my routine mamogram. Which usually amounts to about a half hour of my life spent in extremely uncomfortable and embarassing positions. But yesterday wasn't like most years. They needed extra films because something just wasn't quite right.

I'm so excited today. My husband and I decided last night that we actually think we can afford to take a trip to visit my family. It's going to be the first time I've seen my mom's cousin (who's actually more like my mom's sister) in probably 5 years now. And she's very ill. Her daughter just died in April (I blogged about her, her name was Judy). And the sadness isn't helping her poor heath at all. Hospice is already there, so this will likely be the last time I get to see her. I just pray...

When my husband and I started our videogame forum, the last thing in the world I thought we'd have to deal with would be the death of a member. Unfortunately within the first 3 years we lost 2 members. Two members who loved our forum, worked hard as moderators to help us keep the forum going, defended the site whenever someone had something mean to say. Two members who had not yet left their teens. Today is the anniversary of James' death, which has our two forum angels on my mind even more...

I remember a time in my life when I honestly thought happiness was only intended for other people. I'd resigned myself to the fact that I was just supposed to spend my life alone.
