Highlights in My Childhood..

It was a day at the pediatrician's office when I was a child that I spotted THAT magazine. We were there because my brother had an earache. I loved reading when I was a child, I still do. I've always liked informative reading, specifically learning about animals, plants, people and places. I'm one of those big discovery channel, animal planet and history channel nuts.
Back to the doctor's office where I picked up that special magazine for the first time that had me mesmerized. I saw all these great little stories and most of all, the wonderful activities and puzzles. I just had to have that magazine. I ran with excitement to my mother. Mom intercepted my excitement, saying, "Shhh, not now. I didn't give up easy, "But Mom." Again Mom respeated, "Shhh not now." She was intently watching as the doctor examined my brother's ears. I knew to try no further, so I ripped out that piece of paper out of that magazine for her to order it. I carried that piece of paper all the way home, protecting it as though it was a piece of gold. Upon returning home, I proceeded to present this to my Mother. She read it and thought it looked like great learning material for us. The next day I watched as she placed that 'piece of gold' into the mailbox and then anxiously awaited our first issue. My brother and I decided whoever got to the mailbox first to receive it, would be the first to choose which activities they would get to do in the magazine. Those were some races to that mailbox! LOL.
That wonderful and magical magazine was called Highlights.
