Mother - A Word That Means The World To Me

Mother's Day is a holiday honoring mothers, celebrated in many places around the world. Mothers do not have to be necessarily the woman who gave birth to you. A mother is a woman who nurtures you and loves you for whoever you are. They hurt when you are sad, they are elated when you are happy. They give an ear or words of wisdom when you need it. They pick you up and brush you off when you fall down. They are understanding, patient, loving, and kind.
This is what I remember about my Mom. Yes, remember. My Mom passed away at the early age of 52 from ovarian cancer. I had barely turned 30 years old. I just started getting to know my Mom, as I now was a mother myself. Now beginning to understand all the lessons she was trying to teach me when I was a child. It just came full circle when the Lord decided it was her time.
My mother was a wonderful loving woman. She loved me for who I was no matter what. I could always count on her and her support. It wasn't fair she had to leave this earth so early. I could not share with her the many proud moments I had of my children .....my daughter's graduation from high school, or making the dean's list throughout college, my son's first day at kindergarten, the birth of my last child.... The list could go on.
But, I've been blessed. Not only did I have one Mother but a "second" Mom as well. The other mother came into my life silently, and at a time when I happened to really need a mother. It was like she just appeared from thin air. So much in common, it was as though God, along with my real Mom, had handpicked her to oversee where my mother could not anymore.
Though she did not give birth to me, she is a mother in every sense of the word. She is there for me when I'm happy, when I'm crying, or when I'm confronted with situations that I'm not sure of how to go about handling. She listens to my rants and raves. She shares in all the joys I have with my children. She is my lifeline. Always giving her wisdom and guidance and then letting me make my own choices... whether she agrees or disagrees. She is strong, supportive, wise, forever listening and loving. She accepts me for who I am.
This blog today is my tribute to both of my Mothers and to all Mothers out there in the world. Love and appreciate your Mother, not just this day but every day. Hug them, kiss them and hold onto them. They are your lifeline and always will be. The place you can always run to and find comfort.... their heart.
My children had given me a plaque a few years ago for Mother's Day. I would like to share this poem with you, which represents to me, what the meaning of Mother is, and why Mothers everywhere deserve this special day.
MOTHER
M - Is for the million things she gave me
O - Only means she is growing old
T- Is for the tears she shed to save me
H- Is for her heart of purest gold
E-Is for her eyes with love light shining
R-Means right, and right she'll always be
Put them all together, they spell Mother. A word that means the world to me.
I love you Mom! Happy Mother's Day to all mothers around the world!
