Mother in law dearest - part 2

Posted 01-13-2008 at 12:04 AM by ponderhim
I am writing these not so precious memories down, so that when I feel blue, I can reflect upon these moments and PRAISE GOD THAT THEY ARE OVER.

Mommy in law dearest - part 2
.

Ron's brother and new wife #3 are in town visiting from OK. We haven't seen Ron's brother for many years so were were hopeful to visit him and meet his new bride. Well, there was a family gathering up in the high desert that we declined to go to, and as providence did allow, I came down with yet another head cold (#4 since Sept.) so that allowed us an excuse and I didn't want to endure more misery by traveling up to higher elevation, possibly causing my sinus' to implode.

Well, Ron's brother, Bobby and his wife, Dawnita had been staying at my infamous in-laws home during their stay. They were supposed to visit the ocean today and then stop by for a visit but Donna said that because I am sick they will be canceling the visit. Now mind you, this is the woman that constantly brags about never getting sick, but as I am a germ-a-phobe myself, I can totally understand and we go on with our day.
.

Well, the called a few hours later and let us know that they changed their minds and they will be dropping by at 7pm but that Donna will wait in the car as she doesn't want to come in. Okay, this is normal protocal so we are counting it a blessing that we don't have to interact with her. Yippee!
.

At 5:30 we get a call the they will be here in 20 min and am I still sick. Umm...yeah - head colds take awhile to clear up...duh.

Anyhow, they arrive and I warmly greet them and let them know that they don't have to hug me but I am so glad to see them. I usher them in to the kitchen and offer them freshly baked cookies and coffee. Dawnita eyes me suspiciously, like she had been told that I was an alien or something. She hesitantly comes in and I (who is usually denied the luxury of adult conversation) begin chatting her ear off. Once Dawnita realizes that no alien spawn is going to reach out of my stomach, she relaxes and even banters cheerfully back.
.

Meanwhile, Donna, my infamous mother in law, has retreated to the farthest corner of the opposing room and is making it well known that she does not want to be here and she will neither be eating nor drinking anything that we have to offer and "by the way, what do you mean the boys aren't here? you're not the only one here are you?" I politely tell her that Ron is in the basement, and I let him know they are here.
.

Well, realizing that this is going to be a quick visit, I bring out the family photos to offer some to Ron's brother, Bobby. You see, Bobby was homeless for quite a while and he has no childhood photos, not even photos of his own children so I wanted do be sure that he could take home these precious memories. As a side note, these photos were given to us by Ron's dad several years ago. When Ron's dad, Bob, married Donna, Donna took all of his family photos and put them in a shed that had a leaky roof. Most of the photos have water damage as well as mildew and Bob told us that we could have some of them. We distributed them amongst Ron's brothers, and nieces and kept some for ourselves.
.

Well, I tell Bobby to go ahead and take whatever photos he wants and Donna, completely ignoring the fact that I'm even in the room, tells Bobby that he should ask his father if he can have the photos because they don't belong to Ron and I. I politely remind her that Bob gave them to us to keep and Bob chimes in and agrees that he did give them to us and they are ours to keep. She responded with another huff and that is pretty much how it went for the next 20 minutes. Everyone else was pleasant however, and they even (dare I say) enjoyed the cookies and coffee.
.

Well, thirty minutes after they arrived, Donna announced that it was late and they needed to get going so her and Bob put on their coats, just as the phone rang. Ron went to answer the phone and I said goodbye to Bobby and Dawnita and as I turned to say goodbye to Bob and Donna, they had already made it out the door. I walked Bobby and Dawnita to the door and they hurried as they heard the car motor start up. Just as they drove away, Ron got off the phone and asked where everyone went. I told them they had left and he just said "It figures." By the way, the phone call was Radley and the call lasted less than two minutes.
.

Thanks for letting me rant. I have chosen writing as my tool to release my anger. Hopefully you find humor in this...
