Yes Virginia, there is a REAL teenager in the house..

Posted 09-15-2007 at 06:01 AM by queenofcoupons
Now, let me tell you.. I have 'known' for a while that my daughter, who will be 15 in December, is a teenager. I was there when this magnificent creature entered my world and have celebrated her birthday with joy each year. However what happened in August truly was a shock for me.
My daughter, who lets just call "A" left my house one day with just a smidge of lipgloss on her lips and a touch of eyeliner to accent those baby blues of hers. What happened next is just to hard to write down. In a matter of 8 hours in walked this methamorphed teenager. All of a sudden there was a need for a hair straightner, mousse, additional conditioner, more makeup, hair jel, scrunchies, lipSTICK, blush, mascara, and almost a whole new wardrobe. AMAZINGLY still was that it only took 8 hours to transform my daughter into one of "THEM".. where is this place? What can we do to help other kids not fall victim to the same plague? AVOID the one place where this all can be tracked to.. the ONE place every parent remembers with fear running down their backs and a cold sweat breaking out on our upperlip. Yes, guys, it is.. your worst nightmare returned.. HIGH SCHOOL!
Now I know for most of us HS brings back memories of long nights cramming and paper writing.. and being picked on and being laughed at. Others of 'you' loved it, but usually you were the picker onners.. Now don't get me wrong I loved HS, the lessons learned there have served me well. I just wasn't prepared for the whole morphed thing.. I was thinking it was more 'gradual'... sorta like how puberty was.. a little here, a little there. I just wasn't prepared for this massive of a change.
We have added into our bathroom (we had a 'guys' bathroom and a 'gals' bathroom) face cream, moisturizers, jels and spritz.. and in the actual shower there are more bottles than I can figure out. Apparently now good ol' soap and water aren't good enough.. you have to use a XX for Tuesday, and an XXX for Thursday to 'balance' out your skin. Whatever! I guess since I never had to battle the acne that seems to plague others I never had to do any of those things. funny thing is my daughter has inherited my beautiful flawless skin so lord knows why she wants to do those things, but prevention is the key apparently. Showering has now become a whole 25 minute process for her.. and all these added items on the edges of our tub has added time to my showering too. How do you ask? Well I unfornately have bad vision and since you can't shower with glasses on I have learned to know that the 'shampoo' is one color, the body wash another (the colors change depending on what I got with a coupon) but since it is moms rule only ONE bottle of each open at once it is usually easy to distinguish the colors for a bit.. now after washing my hair twice last week with noxema facial cream (WHY did they make it look like the shampoo bottle???) and washing my body with conditioner I decided that I take the extra 5 minutes before I start the shower and go through all the bottles and jars on the tubs edge and arrange them so that my needed bottles are all in one area. Not that I am complaining as my skin has never been this soft but the smell of noxema in my hair is not quickly forgotten, especially when I didn't notice it until I began blow drying my hair.. and to be honest even after washing my hair in the sink 9304930948309 times I can still smell it...
Texting on her cell phone is what she likes to do at the dinner table. AND now my loved and sturdy blowdryer is no longer 'good enough' for her... apparently there is more than just 2 speeds to a hairdryer. It no longer is just hi and low, there is cool, warm, frizzled, warped, poofed, moused, curled, tangled and fried. Yes Virginia, my handy dandy 14 yr old hairdryer is no longer useful to my dd. She craves the newest and better, faster and stronger models of blowdryers. And to my surprise these new models are smaller than my bulk master of a hairdryer. However I like to be able to plug it in and push a button and it work... these new ones you have to plug in, push a button, stand on one foot, tongue out, held to the left and hop up and down to make it work. Apparently squealing at the mirror every 29 seconds is also what makes it work. I haven't been able to actually witness what happens from start to finish because as soon as my loving dd sees me watching her she promptly closes the door. All I know is she looks like a million bucks when she comes out of the bathroom. Now to me she has always been looking like at least 999,999 bucks but this new handy dandy blow dryer is going that extra mile and adding that extra buck to her worth. She is now emerging a young woman. Also added to the collection in the bathroom is what is known as a flatening iron. Apparently it is used to make hair straighter than ever before... and I am 'behind' the times because I am still using a curling iron to curl my hair and make it more manageable in the morning. Times are a changing in the old Charnock household. Our loving 14 year old daughter is warping into a full blown teenager and it is happening literally all over night.

What a time is going to be had by all of us in the next 4 years. All I know is our life was FINE until that dreaded HS had to come into it...Well at least now I can warn others about it. Time to put on my SM cape and go fight boredom and share my knowledge with the world. I may show up one day on your doorstep sharing the knowledge is power... so if you see my flying by on my way to the HS to pick up my newly founded teenager from marching band practice or JROTC training just nod and wave, chances are I am in no mood to chat or make eye contact. Chances are I am running 15 minutes behind time and I have been texted and called 67 times in that 15 minutes that I am late ... did anyone else ever hear of anything called TRAFFIC??!? That is yet another blog..
until next time America!
Blessings to you all...
