The blank page is the scariest part

I've thought about blogging for some time now, but I never knew where to begin.Well, I guess I don't really have an excuse not to blog anymore, now that I've discovered mycoupons.com's blogging page. I always figured my life and experiences weren't exciting enough to merit a blog. I'm still not sure that they are, but I suppose even if no one reads this, it's still therapeutic to write something just to keep my hand in, so to speak.
I hope to provide something of interest to people here, though at this point I'm not exactly sure what that is. I may never figure it out.
A bit about myself: I'm a middle-aged girl in a small middle-American town. My husband and I have been married for a little over nine years; we've been together for around 16. We decided to live our lives without having children. The reasons were mainly financial in the beginning, but to be honest I just don't feel like I'm cut out to be a mother. I know it takes amazing patience to be a good parent. I just don't have that trait.
It never fails to amaze me how many people can't believe someone would choose not to have children. When I tell them I'm childless the first question I usually get is, "Have to been to the doctor to find out what the problem is?"
So, my husband and I have four cats at the moment. Three of them are young (a little over a year old) and live with us in the house. It's been a challenge to train them to stay off of the kitchen countertops, but they're pretty good cats, so we're all getting along pretty well.
The other kitty is Patches, and she lives in the basement because she just refuses to stay potty-trained. We've had her since she was tiny, and now she's 14, the eldest and last of our "first group" of cats.
My interests at the moment include: saving money, cooking from scratch, crochet, genealogy, writing, music and movies. I do have a part-time job doing prep work at a local restaurant, and my husband works as an apprentice carman for one of the local railroads.
Life is good, but I don't always remember that. Luckily my husband is an avid optimist, and I love him all the more for it. Our personalities balance our marriage out in that respect.
Hopefully I'll get better at this as time goes on. Thanks for reading!
