Okay.....
Here are a few things you need to do to get started.
1. register at eBay ( buy a few things for at least some feedback)
2. Register at paypal ( get verified and confirmed)
3. use an outside source for counters..(I use free vendio counters & Sellathon trackers)
4. Have an idea on what you want to sell or no? This is where you really need to do some thinking and research.
(Free listings for month of September by the way if listing under $9.99, not including other charges but hey..it saves and gets you going on important feedback)
Researching can be all types of things... I choose to zoom in on hard to find items that I may be able to easily get here in my part of the country. Like find out what's HOT IN L.A. If you live in NY etc. Trust me...each coast has a different type of style in all forms to fashion, music...etc.
I also go to on a weekly basis, what's hot on eBay and eBay pulse/pop. Not to mention trends online w/cnn..etc.
It's important to know ALL the trends..let's say you found out an apple ipod is really hot and you know you can buy them in your stores cheaper than they are selling on eBay. Make sure that you have the RIGHT one. What if you purchased a 2mb ipod and no one wants anything smaller than a 30 mb? Or you found a really great deal on a pair of designer jeans...well, is it a popular size to sell?? Many things to figure out. A big mistake I made when I first started selling was ...listing when it was convenient to me. Like 2am!! Well. 2am shopping is only good for buyers NOT sellers!!! So, research the best time to have item ending as well! I have crazy hours so, what I did is use a free auction tool by auctivia (there are others out there just as good too) That not only allows me to add 16 photo's to my listing for FREE (eBay charges .15 cents for each additional photo after first one) it allows me to save photo's, logo's, old listings and Schedule my listings as well! So, Now I can continue to do my 2 am listings , just have them post at a more productive time!
I really wish that I could tell you what to buy...to re-sell. That's almost like having the lottery numbers. All I can do is give the best advice and hope that people have learned from my mistakes. The Holiday's are coming and people shop early online and go to the stores last minute! ( I know that from former Retail Management)
1. I always use gallery option in all my listings
2. Don't over charge to ship! We all hate that! Do insure all packages!! ( this protects seller not buyers)
3. Don't use all stock photo's. Prove that you have the actual item in hand!
4. Ship in a timely manner
5. Purchase free vista print cards and use them as thank you notes!! They love it!
6. Customer service, promise nothing but delivery every way you can!!!! What I mean is don't promise the sun, moon and stars..but do go above and beyond!!
7. Use a business email address, not something fluffy..keep it professional.
8. SELL INTERNATIONALLY!! You get 100x's the exposure!!! it's not hard at all!!!
last one...Item title is the KEY!!! Not just the product! Successful sellers know, it's how you title and what time the auction ends!!
I hope this helps in some sort of way...
Even if you don't have the $$ to go out and purchase new items to sell..you have something that someone wants in your house lying around collecting dust. !!!
*Warning* Holiday's are closer than they appear!!
Good luck and happy posting!
