Girl Power

Posted 05-19-2007 at 11:38 PM by tag1114
As I sit here on a Saturday night, without my kids, I reflect on the time I've had with them. You see, tonight they're with their dad. He moved out of our family home several months ago. And while my 2 girls and I should be mourning his departure, we actually celebrate our freedom. I think my girls miss their dad at times. Or maybe they just miss what his presence brought. We were certainly better off financially when he was with us. But as most of us know, money isn't everything. And we still have our basic needs taken care of and though we only get to enjoy a dinner out occasionally now, or a movie every now and then rather than anytime we want to, we have all we need. But I can't tell you the number of times other people have commented on how much happier my girls seem now. Sad, isn't it? Their dad didn't invest a lot of time in them when he did live here. He did very little with them. He went to work early, came home late and many days he didn't even see them. He was invested in himself only. So tonight, I resent that they have to be with him. He is the one that chose to split apart a family and now I have to sacrifice time with my girls so he can have his time. I just hate the way this all works. However, I know they need time with both parents. I know because of him, I have these special blessings. I know time will make it easier. But most of all, I know I love them whether they're here with me or not. As I always tell them, we're strong girls and these type of circumstances make us stronger girls. We know how to take care of ourselves and each other.
