Happy Halloween!

Today is Halloween, a day many kids look forward to. Maybe many adults do too. For most of the kids I know, it's about picking out a costume, having a party at school or home or both, going trick or treating and even watching some scary movies. Most of the adults I know only participate in this day for their kids, me included. As a child I hated Halloween. It was scary, dark and just over all frightening to me. I never wanted to go trick or treating and when I was made to I cried and screamed the whole time. Needless to say my parents stopped making me go. So for the first few years of my kids lives, we didn't trick or treat or dress up or hand out candy. I guess I was still thinking of that horrible childhood experience. But once my oldest daughter started school and saw that other kids had fun at Halloween, I had to forget about my own past and look forward with my children. Now we have fun with Halloween. My kids love picking out costumes and treats for their own school parties. They love going to the fall festivals in our area and special events they have around Halloween. And watching my kids have fun and look forward to these special days makes me wish I was a kid again.....only this time a kid that wasn't scared!
