My Mom Will Do That

That's the phrase that my oldest daughter has come to love so much! I've been volunteered for everything that can be volunteered for. I was volunteered to do her 4th grade Junior Achievement program, which I did not mind at all. Jr. Achievement is a wonderful program and I highly recommend it. Normally, they have a business person from the community come in but since we live in such a small area and the school is so small, they usually ask the parents to do it. This is my 3rd year doing it. 2 years ago, I did 2 classes, last year just one class and this year I'm technically doing 3 classes but the 2 second grade classes will be combined into 1 program. Got through the 4th grade Jr. Achievement only to find out that the school is having their book fair next week. I was volunteered to come help EVERY DAY. Yes, my 9 year old told the librarian, who is new to the school, that her mom would be happy to help because she helps every year. She gladly gave the librarian my phone number and then escorted me to the library to meet her and once again inform the lady that I would be happy to help out next week. And then yesterday, there's a note in the backpack with my daughter's name on top and the following note: "Sunday 11-11-07 is Veteran's Day. The Just Say No Club will be hosting a breakfast in honor of all veterans on Monday 11-12-07. We need you to bring the following". My wonderful 9 year old signed me up to bring bacon biscuits. I ask why she couldn't have volunteered me for milk, juice or donuts, something I could just buy and take in. Her response: "mom, just cook them Monday morning and take them in on your way to the book fair." HAHA....she's funny....I already wake up at 5:30 just to get myself ready, their lunches, feed the animals and have a couple of minutes of quiet. Guess I'll be up at 4:30 to make bacon and biscuits....yikes! I ask her if everyone in her class was taking food in....she said "no, only those of us who volunteered our moms".
All I have to say is: while it's exhausting at times, I absolutely love the fact that she knows I will do anything I can for her. I love that she feels comfortable enough to raise her hand and proudly say "my mom will do that"!
Ms. T, I hope you always feel that way. I hope you know that I will always do that, as long as I can!
