Can you stand one more deodorant thread?

We recently discussed once again the topic of deodorant. I was one who proudly said I haven't used it for many years and I don't need it.

Well....apparently mentalpause is causing my hormones to go wackier than I thought. This summer I smell darn it! I can smell myself and my husband so kindly and lovingly pointed out to me that I smelled like B.O. one day.

So let's have the discussion again because I need to discover something that is as natural as possible and I don't want to smell but I don't mind sweating.

What do you ladies recommend? In the meantime I will use one of the free samples in my drawer that I was saving for gift bags.

LOL I always have this phrase: "I mean this in the very best way possible BUT...."

At least he wasn't mean about it

Nothing natural works for me. I have to use prescription strengh stuff that my doc gives me a prescription for. Sometimes I can get it from Target over the counter. My problem is sweating, not smelling so our issues are different

I don't know a thing about natural deodorant. My question is this: How do you stand going around with wet pits?

They are only wet after a workout. Then I clean them.

I like Tom's of Maine.

(I stink, therefore I am.)

My mom only used a crystal rock deodorant for most of her life. She never had any stink.

So you don't sweat when you clean your house or go outside in the summer when it's hot?

I found this sight that may be helpful to you. I think I am going to switch to a "natural" deodorant myself. I am also working on revamping the food we eat.

Thanks! I will check it out and I do know that I smell a lot better since giving up meat. I am not saying everyone should do that I'm just saying all my body odors are less strong and less offensive or unpleasant or whatever word you choose to use.

I think I will try the Tom's it's recommended in more than one place and is in most stores.

I would LOVE to give up meat........ I try. What do you eat, tho?? I'm not big on lots of beans. I really want to get to a very natural diet, not so much chemical foods. We don't eat a lot of prepared chemical stuff as it is, but, I want to be even more diligent about that. Not sure I can cut the meat out for DH and the kids, but, I can stop eating it.

So, what do you eat? How did it effect the rest of your body?

Crystal deodorant stick is the only thing I've used for years. I've recommended it on this board before and people have written to say how much they too ended up liking it.

It is around $5.00 at Walgreens, and some health food type stores. Get the stick, not the roll on. It will be on the top or the very bottom shelf at Walgreens. It is not a big seller so it is not on the main eye view shelves. Walmart does not carry it. CVS might, I can't remember.

You wet the stick under running water and apply it to your underarms. It never stings even if you've just shaved. The roll on Crystal does not work as well, but I do have some to throw on if I'm going out at night and I want a quick touch up.

I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and this is one of the few products I can use on my underarm area. This stuff WORKS!!!!! It is unscented and it lasts almost a year with daily use. I am thru mentalpause finally, and it was such a big help. I had major hotflashes for awhile but my underarms stayed dry. It never itches or burnes.

I so highly recommend Crystal deod. stick!!! For $5.00, what have you got to lose????

I like Tom's deod. but Crystal works so well and lasts forever.

I eat fish and shrimp. I eat eggs every morning practically. Mushrooms can also replace meat in many recipes and although they tend to be highly processed I do occasionally indulge in "fake" meat. For example I love FLT (facon, lettuce, tomato).

I don't eat too much tofu or tempeh I grew up eating Italian food and I need hearty fare lol! Usually I just omit the meat for example burritos and lasagna and either replace with rice or spinach or just leave it out.

Not in the traditional sense and it affects your body differently than "meat".

THanks. I am also very mindful of HFCS in food. Now to cut out the meat.

So true! DH hasn't eaten red meat or drunk beer in about three weeks and he smells so good now! He's eating small amounts of protein (eggs, chicken, fish, shrimp) and tons of veggies and fruit.

You know, I haven't eaten red meat in a while. I got tired of the taste and it seems to me my sweat is less offensive than before. I've also increased my water consumption and I seem to sweat less as well. I think of water as my body's "heat sink".

My skin under my arms has become REALLY sensitive. I used to use Arrid, but was starting to develop a rash. I switched to Tom's, but it caused rashes for me, too. I use Arm & Hammer now. I used Arrid yesterday - just because I thought maybe the rashes were due to something else, but I ended up with welts, swelling and redness in about a 6 inch area. YIKES! Super itchy and yuck. Took 2 Benadryl before bed last night and most of the swelling is gone, although the redness is still there. I've gone back to A&H, although I also just use powder sometimes if it is just me and I'm staying home. I am going to try the Crystal, though. I've never heard of that - must have missed the last post. Thanks for posting on this topic!

My underarms are sensitive as well.. I also switched to Arm & Hammer, but I couldn't find it at walmart a few months ago.,.. I guess they were out of stock. So I got the unscented ban roll on. Roll on is the only kind I can use and it now make me scratch my pits like a monkey. I want to try the Crystal as soon as I can find it.

The last time I saw it, and it's been a while.....it was in a clear purple tube. Very bottom shelf. I'll clarify when I find it.

I went to WinCo to pick up some things they don't carry at Costco. I went to grab some Tom's and found this natural stuff
Shop online Herbal clear natural deodorant, clear aloe fresh with aluminum free - 2.65 Oz at AmericaRx.com
right next to it for $1.93. I tried it out today when I went to the river and on a walk with my poochie. I did not sweat or stink! And it's on sale for $1.93. I bought two but I will get some more next time I go there.
It's kind of sticky like some of the other natural ones and doesn't contain aluminum or paraben. I am really happy with it. I guess I could live with this. I mean I have to do something! When hubby says something about my personal hygiene or fashion I better listen because even though he has no clue when it's something extreme he knows of what he speaks!

Oh yeah thanks a lot you girls! You forgot to remind me of the subtle sting that happens when an idiot shaves before applying deodorant.

You have to buy my Crystal Stick. It doesn't sting!!!

Here's what it looks like:

Crystal Body Deodorant

It's the purple stick. I see they have some new Essence stuff, but I have not tried that.

Walgreen's - top or bottom shelf as it is not a big seller. Only $5.00, lasts a year and it WORKS!!!
P.S. I just check and it looks like CVS (at least online) carries it also. They list it for $7.59 but I've never paid that much for it.

LOL you reminded me of a thread here years ago where someone posted about shaving their privates and rolling a specific kind of deodorant over the area, something recommended by a stripper. They either read about it, or saw it on tv.
Well! so many people here said they were going to try that...people said, well a stripper does it, she should know.. then a couple weeks later everyone who did it was posting that they broke out in horrible rashes.
Anyone remember that, omg that was so funny. I didn't think it would work so I didn't do it. The instructions were something like. 1. clean the area 2. shave the area 3. roll xyz deodorant over the area.
ROFL!

I don't recommend shaving your privates and rolling anything on it. Just underarms. And no one wants to see me strip!!! Yikes!!!

I bought some new Dove a few weeks ago. I also couldn't use deodorant because my armpits would break out and get so sore.
I tried the Toms but got a weird scent, mango or peach and it just smelled like a yucky candle.
Then I tried two different Arm & Hammer but both are mens scents I think and made me have a headache. Way too strong.
Then I came across this Dove Grapefruit and Lemongrass scented. It has been working really good. Very light scent.

Oh I have the Crystal too. It does work good but when I am at home I usually don't use any deo, I only use it when I go out so sometimes it is easier not to have to mess with getting it wet and using it.

I use Dove Sensitive skin solid. It's unscented and works well.

I get itchy arm pit rash if I use anything scented or any razors with lubricating strips, etc. My pits are picky and having an itchy arm pit rash you just want to dig at isn't a good thing, especially having to work with the public all day. No body wants to be waited on by someone digging their pits, lol!

I have very itchy arm pits. I have to put on Cortizone 10 cream about 10 minutes before I put on deodorant. That is the only thing that works. I did use the Thai stick. Worked for about a week or so and I started itching again, so it's back with the cort cream and deodorant. Tried Toms, no good, anything unscented and for sensitive skin, also did not work. I must have 20 sticks of deodorant under the sink that don't work.

DD is the only one that used scented deodorant and even then it's a very light scent. DH uses unscented A&H and I use unscented Sure. DH went through a phase 4-5 yrs ago when Sure quit working for him and it took me forever to find something unscented that did work. In the meantime he used my unscented Secret and it worked really well. Of course, there's a certain stigma attached with a man using Secret. It's difficult to find unscented deodorants.
