internet in the car?

Hello! I am not computer savvy, at all,, so here is my question...We are going on a long car trip and it would be nice to take my laptop (7 months old) along to break up the time. Do I need something that will allow it to pick up the interent in the car or is this not possiable unless your parked by a Starbucks!!
this will be highway travel...thanks!

I believe both AT&T & Verizon both sell air cards. They normally will "give" you the card if you sign up for the service which runs between $40-$80 a month depending on the carrier.

I can tell you that if you are like me and you need to be connected it's well worth it. You will get internet practically anywhere and it's a flat rate per month.

Register your Starbucks card and you'll receive 2 hours of internet a day.

DH has a wireless/anywhere card throught AT&T. We pay $65.00 per month (or right around there) for him to have access anywhere. Oh, we also had to sign a contract for a year.

A lot of the road stops that have restaurants have free internet. Also, the truck stop ones have free internet access. You just turn your laptop on and connect to an open network. If you are only going to use it for a road trip, I wouldn't buy a card. The cards are like cell phone plans, you have to pay for a year/two years, and if you cancel early, you are charged a disconnect fee. I would suggest just connecting at a rest stop/truck stop.

My ex-dh is an over the road truck driver. He has a DirectTV receiver and dish in his truck that is registered to the receiver and dish that he has at home. When he's laid over somewhere all he does is attach the dish to the mount on the outside of the truck and kick back to watch what ever he wants.

AIr Cards are good I have one from Verizon its how I had been connecting up until I got internet installed at my mom's. I would surf in the car when we went on vacation I love it.

You could also try to "war-drive" I would google it or Kevin Rose to learn about it, I have been known to war-drive when I couldn't get a connection through my air card.
